About FoSS
Friends of Shrivenham School (FoSS) is the school’s PTA which plays an active role in school life. Every parent and member of staff at the school are automatically a member of FoSS. However, we also have a dedicated parent committee, the FoSS Event & Fundraising Committee (often simply referred to as the FoSS Committee). We raise funds to pay for activities and equipment not covered by government funds. Our aim is to organise events that raise money but are also enjoyed by our children, parents, teachers and the wider community. We aim to use FoSS funds to enhance our children’s school experience.
Examples of things FoSS have funded include:
We raise funds by organising race nights, school discos, sponsored events, class cake sales, raffles, fetes, FoSS lottery, easy fundraising, bags2school etc.
FoSS Committee and Class Representatives
Our FoSS committee/team is made up of three officers – Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. A number of parents then make up the full committee. The committee meet once per half term with smaller working groups working as necessary. Our Class Reps are key people for providing a link between each class, parents and the FoSS Committee. There is at least one Class Rep per class.
The FoSS committee members for 2021/2022 are Sara Spinks and Bex Jarvis (Joint Chairs), Rosy Taylor (Treasurer), Bex Jarvis (Secretary), Louise Uffindell, Ana Bell, Becky Tye, Alex Gilbert-Lee, and Becky Peal.
The class reps are:
Willow Class- Davina Fisher
Maple Class – Bex Jarvis
Beech Class – Anat Shpitzer
Rowan Class – Bex Jarvis
Silver Birch Class – Becky Tye and Anat Shpitzer
Walnut Class – Sara Spinks
Sycamore Class – Lisa Smith
Annual General Meeting
Our AGM is held at the beginning of Autumn term and this is an opportunity for all parents to come along and hear about events organised, funds raised and how the money was spent. At the AGM we elect the committee members for the next year. As all parents and staff members are automatically members of FoSS everyone is eligible to vote at the AGM.
Charity Status
The Charities Act 1993 requires organisations such as ours with an annual income in excess of £5,000 to register with the Charity Commission. FoSS is a registered charity (registered charity number: 1030832) and handling donated money is required by law to be run by a selected committee (decided at the AGM) who then discuss and vote on how to allocate the money.
Being a Registered Charity gives us many extra benefits including:
National Confederation Of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTA)
FoSS belongs to the NCPTA, which is the national charity that supports PTA groups. We pay an annual membership fee to NCPTA which gives us lots of member benefits including: a comprehensive insurance package, support and advice on PTA and fundraising matters.
